Our History
Mid-1800s: A few Christian men recognized the need for a central place of worship for the rural residents of Mitchell and Colquitt counties. Land was donated and the building of a church, which still stands strong in the community today, was started. The builders labored intently until the last board was in place. The church, which is nestled on a knoll is partially surrounded by a panoramic view of big, beautiful pine trees and the church cemetery. Located across the highway is a spring that supplied cool water during the 1800’s and early 1900’s. Very appropriately, the church was named Cool Springs Baptist Church.Cool Springs Baptist Church, founded in 1854 and constituted in 1856, continues its proud heritage and stands as a pillar in the community. After 75 years of dedicated service to our Lord and the community, our church was the first to be chartered in the Mallary Association on December 29, 1883. Today, we are apart of the Tucker Association.
The early 1960’s were eventful in church history. An annex for socials and other church related events was built in 1960. In 1962, the men of our church accomplished another milestone.
They began construction of a pastorium on October 1, and the construction was completed on November 30.
The original building was used as a place of worship for over 140 years. In 1971, the addition of a new sanctuary was completed; the old sanctuary was reconstructed and used for Sunday School and Training Union classes. In 1995, the original building was removed and new construction began. Today, standing on the same groundthat was dedicated to our Lord over 140 years ago, stands a beautiful education building and a social hall. In 1997, we purchased a new pastorium which is located approximately one mile from the church on Cool Springs Road. Thanks to God’s rich blessings and a generous donation from the J.L. Bishop family, today we have a beautiful facility to worship in and a nice home for our pastor and his family. God has so graciously blessed our church since establishment in 1854!
